A AVICULTURA INDUSTRIAL DE CORTE NO NORDESTE: ASPECTOS ECONÔMICOS E ORGANIZACIONAIS AgEcon
Evangelista, Francisco Raimundo; Nogueira Filho, Antonio; Oliveira, Alfredo Augusto Porto.
A produção independente é...

Biology of Isopisthus parvipinnis: an abundant sciaenid species captured bycatch during sea-bob shrimp fishery in Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Romero,Renato M.; Moraes,Leonardo E.; Santos,Marcella N.; Rocha,Gecely R. A.; Cetra,Mauricio.
Trawling is the most common method of shrimp harvesting. This technique causes a negative impact on the fauna due to the high bycatch rates and to the animals that are accidentally caught and generally returned to the sea dead. The consequences of this technique and the biological aspects of the involved species are poorly studied, specially in the Brazilian northeast. The objective of this study was to show some aspects of the population biology of Isopisthus parvipinnis (Bigtooth corvina) captured as bycatch during sea-bob (Xiphopenaeus kroyeri) shrimp fishing in the region of Ilhéus, in the state of Bahia in Brazil. A total of 1290 individuals were caught in a monthly sampling at three different stations, from March, 2003 to February, 2005. The...

Demersal ichthyofauna of the inner continental shelf off Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Moraes,Leonardo Evangelista; Romero,Renato de Mei; Rocha,Gecely Rodrigues Alves; Moura,Rodrigo Leão de.
We present an inventory of demersal fishes from the inner continental shelf off Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil. Three sites were sampled monthly, between March 2003 and February 2005, with standardized bottom trawls (30 minutes, 16 m depth, 22/16 mm mesh). A total of 7.857 specimens were captured, belonging to three species of Chondrichthyes and 95 species of Actinopterygii (77 genera and 40 families). The occurrence of Ampharius phrygiatus represents a southern range extension for this species, which was previously known only from the narrow coastal stretch between Guyana and Maranhão State (Brazil). The record of Synodus poeyi represents the first record of this species in Brazil and in the South Atlantic, as it was previously recorded only in the Caribbean. The...

Estuarine ichthyofauna of the Paraguaçu River, Todos os Santos Bay, Bahia, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Reis-Filho,José Amorim; Nunes,José de Anchieta Cintra da Costa; Ferreira,Amanda.
Estuaries are areas of recognized importance in the development and sanctuaries of fishes and also a great source of fishing resources. This article presents an inventory of fishes from the Paraguaçu River estuary, Todos os Santos Bay, Bahia, Brazil. 28 points comprising the saline sections that may exist in a tropical estuary were sampled quarterly from March 2009 to February 2010 with the aid of bottom gill nets, surface gill nets, seine net and casting net. A total of 4.097 individuals were captured, belonging to 7 species of Chondrichthyes and 117 species of Actinopterygii (83 genera and 49 families). Most of the geographical extent of the estuary was sampled by assessing large spatial variability in fish assemblage structure. The curve of species...

Macrophyllum macrophyllum (chiroptera, phyllostomidae) in the brazilian caatinga scrublands: river basins as potential routes of dispersal in xeric ecosystems Mastozool. neotrop.
Feijó,Anderson; Rocha,Patrício A; Mikalauskas,Jefferson; Ferrari,Stephen F.
We present the first record of Macrophyllum macrophyllum in the Brazilian Caatinga. The foraging strategy of this species, mainly over water, is consistent with the lack of records for the semi-arid Caatinga biome. During a survey in the municipality of Paripiranga, in northern Bahia, an adult male of M. macrophyllum was captured on 27th March 2012 (dry season) on the margin of the Vaza-Barris River. Given its ecological and behavioral adaptations, it seems likely that M. macrophyllum occurs only in association with the principal perennial rivers of the Caatinga. Further research may confirm that Macrophyllum is more widespread in the Caatinga, but likely restricted to local corridors of habitat associated with the region’s perennial rivers.

Species richness in restinga vegetation on the eastern Maranhão State, Northeastern Brazil Acta Amazonica
SERRA,Flávia Cristina Vieira; LIMA,Patrícia Barbosa; ALMEIDA JR,Eduardo Bezerra de.
ABSTRACT The State of Maranhão comprises the second largest coastline in Brazil. Nonetheless, few floristic surveys on restinga vegetation have been performed in Northeastern Brazil. This study aimed to survey floristic in a restinga of Maranhão, and to assess its similarity to other restingas in the states of Pará and Piauí. Botanical specimens were sampled at Sítio Aguahy, in the municipality of São José de Ribamar, along the eastern coast of Maranhão between June/2012 and October/2013. Species identification and life forms classification followed the usual methods employed in floristic studies. Similarities in plant composition of six sites were estimated based on cluster analysis through Bray-Curtis distance. In the studied area, we found 116...
